CEDEUS (Centro de Desarrollo Urbano Sustentable) is an initiative that seeks to bring
together leading researchers in Chile in the field of sustainable urban development in
order to work on interdisciplinary research challenges. Through this interdisciplinary approach, young researchers (including early career academics, postdoctorates and graduate and undergraduate thesis students) will be integrated into the research themes and clusters in order to promote learning and knowledge transfer, and to generate a highly competent new cohort of researchers in Chile.

We focus on the optimal design of bi-objective networks. The particular cases we address are
the Hierarchical Network Design Problem, the Vehicle Routing Problem with Delivery and Pickup, and
the Median Path Network. All of these problems are NP-complete or NP-hard

Solution methods for the following situations:
- Service is provided to individual customers by more than one facility, either at different
times or simultaneously.
- Customers can choose different facilities at different times, or multiple facilities, depending
on the quality, which is a function of different attributes including price of the goods
and congestion. ´
- Extend these results to the competitive network design problem and
the elastic demand network problem.

Research for VANET solutions that would allow the system to fill those location data gaps. Specifically, through the use of Vehicle-to-vehicle Communications, we would develop protocols that improve the reliability of the system.
Research for new applications of the VANET to deploy a wider variety of location aware services to the buses, such as traffic conditions (congestion, traffic flow, etc.), traffic alerts (accidents or road problems) and roadside service directories (such as announcement of points of interests, etc.)
