    SOCIEDAD DE MATEMATICA DE CHILE

    Jorge Billeke fue un destacado matemático chileno que realizó su carrera en diversas instituciones del país. De él se recuerda de manera muy especial su tremenda dedicación y preocupación por los estudiantes. Numerosos son los académicos a lo largo del país en cuya formación fue un motor fundamental y que pueden dar testimonio de su calidez y generosidad. Creado tras su lamentable desaparición, el Premio Jorge Billeke a la Excelencia Académica tiene por objetivo el reconocer y premiar a los alumnos más destacados de una carrera de Licenciatura o Ingeniería Matemática de alguna universidad del país. Se busca de esta forma incentivar el que los estudiantes más talentosos desarrollen sus capacidades al máximo desde sus primeros años de estudio. La iniciativa de este premio nació el 1999, impulsada por ex-colegas y amigos de Jorge en conjunto con la Sociedad Matemática de Chile. Retomada tiempo después con ocasión de un Congreso en la memoria de Jorge, ha sido adjudicado de manera ininterrumpida
